Tom Ford’s new fragrance smells like leather, cedar and West Texas at dusk

Tom Ford Beauty is launching Ombré Leather Reserve, a more intense reworking of the house’s signature leather scent, previewing exclusively at Boots on 12 August before going nationwide on 10 September.

Ombré Leather Reserve is built around the high desert of West Texas. Juniper and cypress open things up with a sharp, cold freshness and black pepper adds some bite. Pinyon wood and a new, deepened black leather accord carry the fragrance from there, while Texas cedarwood and two types of sandalwood bring smoke and warmth. Benzoin resin finishes it off with a faint vanilla-like note that lingers longest on skin.

Perfumer Sonia Constant used Tom Ford’s ScentTrek technology to render the juniper and pinyon wood. The process captures a living plant’s full scent profile rather than just extracting oil from it, which is why the scent feels much more than a typical “woody” fragrance.
