Eight shades, a quilted gold case and Margot Robbie Chanel's new Rouge Allure Velvet is the lipstick worth growing up for

A core memory for every beauty fanatic, we all remember the first time playing with our older relatives’ makeup bags. Swatching glittery eyeshadows, rubbing orange foundation across our cheeks, or for me, swiping my mothers’ red Chanel lipstick. Satiny and luxurious, it was the ultimate forbidden fruit, the apple in my garden of Eden (the cupboard under the bathroom sink). Now a grown-up myself (well, sort of), there’s no excuse not to get my hands on one of my very own. Excellent timing, too, since the maison has recently dropped its new limited edition Rouge Allure Velvet.

Across eight shades from tawny brown to fiery red, the limited edition Rouge Allure Velvet retains the creamy, pigmented formula which hails to the product’s longstanding success, but comes in an upgraded gold-trimmed case inspired by the house’s quilted motif. The click of the case is as much of a signal that you are ready to go as it is a sort of grown-up fidget toy. Though Chanel has always had a mature brand identity, it is from the childhood nostalgia of yearning to one day own the brand’s products that lend to its success amongst Gen Z.

To be the face of the campaign, Chanel has invited long-standing house ambassador and star of Wuthering Heights, Margot Robbie. The partnership represents Chanel’s commitment to their legacy with the brand having worked with Robbie for a number of years, as well as their ability to stay on the pulse.

Though the hero product is, of course, the Rouge Allure Velvet, Robbie also models the Le Crayon Lèvres: a lip pencil that comes in the same eight hues as the Rouge Allure Velvet. The pencils can be mixed and matched with the lipsticks to create monochromatic or contrasting looks. You can always count on Chanel to toe the line between classic and versatile. Shop here.
