Pat McGrath gives Louis Vuitton its first-ever lip liner

Louis Vuitton has launched the LV Crayon, its first lip liner, fronted by Dame Pat McGrath in her role as the house’s Cosmetics Creative Director. It’s an expansion of La Beauté Louis Vuitton, the makeup line McGrath launched last year with the LV Rouge lipstick and LV Baume balm, both of which sold out fast enough to prove there was real appetite for LV makeup. 

The pencil is shaped like Louis Vuitton’s Monogram flower, designed with industrial designer Konstantin Grcic to improve grip rather than just look good. A matte black wooden body moves into an ombré finish that reveals the shade underneath, capped with gold Monogram hardware. There are ten shades, running from warm nude 190 Beige Atlas, to a deep burgundy McGrath calls Monogram Rouge, “the fusion of the historic brown Monogram canvas and classic red lipstick,” as she’s put it.

McGrath, who’s worked backstage at Louis Vuitton shows for over two decades before taking this role, has said every look she’s built on the LV runway starts with the lip line. The new lipliner is effectively that precision needed for a runway but packaged for everyday use. The formula is peptide-infused and claims up to 24 hours of wear. It comes with its own accessories too, promising a dedicated sharpener, a lip blending brush, a pouch and a Monogram canvas case built to hold all ten shades at once. Shop.
