Jil Sander Just Bottled the Feeling of a Morning Walk
Twelve unisex formulas, zero unnecessary ingredients and a custom design by Formafantasma that turns your vanity into an art gallery.
If you’re not a fan of your perfume smelling like a department store flower aisle and want your scent to capture a specific, core memory, Jil Sander’s latest drop is worth a look. Under creative director Simone Bellotti, the brand has added six new unisex scents to its Olfactory Series 1 collection, bringing the total lineup to 12.
The perfumers used a super stripped back formula of just the fragrance, three natural ingredients, water, and alcohol made from upcycled carbon emissions. They mixed in aldehydes, which are synthetic molecules that act like a high-definition lens, turning regular smells, like a crisp morning walk or salty skin after an ocean swim, into something weirdly atmospheric.
The bottles are also a bit of an underdog flex. Co-designed with design studio Formafantasma, they aren’t perfectly symmetrical. Every single glass bottle has tiny, deliberate imperfections, meaning no two look exactly the same on your shelf. Plus, they come with a chunky white aluminium cap that makes spraying it feel like a bit of a ritual.
Here is the quick breakdown of the six new scents:
- Shiso: Like an early morning walk. It’s crisp and green with juniper berry, sandalwood, and upcycled key lime.
- Salt: Bottled ocean weightlessness. A mineral mix of upcycled cardamom, vanilla, and French lavender.
- Lily: A warm night in Florence. Metallic blooming lily mixed with jasmine and upcycled cypress.
- Sesame: Velvety and slightly obsessive, smelling like a first taste of black sesame, cocoa shell and cedarwood.
- Mahogany: Deep tropical forest energy with leathery cypriol and a fizzy kick of ginger.
- Vanille: Not your basic sweet vanilla. This is its dark, mysterious cousin mixed with cedarwood and Spanish labdanum.
