Hermès Beauty's new foundation is the one that might just convince the concealer-only girls to come back to the full face.
In a post-clean girl era, whilst I personally have embraced the indie-sleaze renaissance with open arms, smudged eyeliner and cool-toned lips, I’ve yet to become a foundation revert. Though I thankfully skipped the Dream Matte Mousse trauma, I did sadly fall victim to slapping on copious amounts of The Body Shop’s cheapest, most orange foundation in the fluorescent school bathroom somewhere between maths at three and choir at four. Needless to say, I’ve been a concealer-only girl since we brought back natural beauty in the early 2020s.
Entering my mid-20s partygirl era, I’ve been tempted to bring back the full face to take me from office drinks at three to Inferno’s at four (AM), and Hermès Beauty’s new foundation might just have convinced me to come back to the dark side. The Plein Air Luminous Matte Skincare Foundation (gosh, that’s a mouthful) is exactly what I’ve been looking for. With a more mature, natural looking finish, the matte product is enriched with ingredients like niacinamide and a 71% overall natural composition for a flawless but breathable finish to last from dusk till dawn (or vice versa, since it’s lightweight enough for everyday wear).
Gregoris Prypylis, Creative Director of Hermès Beauty, has formulated a base that taps into both the movement towards naturality in the skincare industry and the more maximalist direction the beauty space has been moving into. The foundation melts into the skin, with a glowy matte finish. No undereye creases here. Complemented by the Plein Air primer, the duo forms the ultimate buildable base, ideal for every occasion.
