Chloé bottles up the French Mediterranean
Four scents that capture the warmth of golden hour on a sun-drenched coastline no plane ticket required
It’s around this time of year when the days get longer, the weather gets warmer and London’s pub gardens are filled with sunkissed individuals sipping Aperol Spritzes that I long for the Mediterranean sun. Whilst the heat in London is oppressive, almost suffocating, and never lasts more than a handful of days at a time, the Mediterranean sun bathes the landscape in a pleasant warm glow. Though nothing quite compares to the feeling, Chloé has tried to bottle it up with their new scent quartet.
Ateliers des Fleurs: The Mediterranean Essences are inspired by the French Mediterranean, and the designs from founder Gaby Aghion, who took sunlit sand and earth and turned them into fluid, pleated silhouettes. The scents are equally as sunkissed and casual as a summer’s breeze.
Perfumers Quentin Bisch and Ane Ayo brainstormed four unique, sunny scents that capture the essence of golden light bathing the Mediterranean landscape. Sable Lavande captures the scent of “sun-warmed sand”, with a burnt lavender complimented by solar fig and clean, earthy ambrofix. Sous les Pins is equally as warm, evoking “the scent of a stroll beneath the Mediterranean pine trees”. Inspired specifically by Porquerolles (an island in the French Med), the aroma has cheery notes of eucalyptus warmed with woody undertones.
Two lighter, more fruity scents complete the capsule. Plage du Figuier is the scent of fruity figs lifted with orange blossom, the olfactory signature scent of the Mediterranean. Vert Soleil is inspired by coastal landscape, specifically the lentisque shrub, found where vegetation merges with the sea. The green lentisque is complimented by juicy green mandarin notes for a fresh, zesty fragrance.
The scents are simple and timeless, cased in an equally thought-about bottle. Made of green-yellow undulated glass inspired by plissé soil and a sandy-textured cap, the bottle captures dappled sunlight through lush leafy trees. Available here
