Dior unveils Diorissima: the new haute jewellery collection
Victoire de Castellane pays homage to Venice and the House of Dior in the most whimsical high jewellery collection of the season.
If there’s one thing about Dior’s jewellery collections, it’s that they’re crafted with heart. Take, for example, the recent Rose des Vents collection, inspired by the mosaic found in the garden of Christian Dior’s childhood home. The new Diorissima Haute Joaillerie Collection is no different.
From Artistic Director of Dior Joaillerie, Victoire de Castellane, Diorissima pays homage to both the House of Dior and La Serenissima in Venice, where the collection will debut. It takes into account both the natural and the surreal, the worlds in Christian Dior himself inhabited.
The collection is a study of both flora and fauna, and the works of Monsieur Dior’s personal favourite artists, Matisse and Picasso. Juxtaposing shapes and coloured gems celebrate the surrealist art style, while other creations of greens and blues reference the land and the sea. The final arm of the collection is based on the celestial world, with rare gems taking on the role of cloud formations, suns and constellations.
The Diorissima collection is punctuated by the use of the ‘doublet’ technique, in which thin stones are layered over others to bring out differently hued gradients. The 141 piece collection dabbles in both transparency and opacity, making it one of the most whimsical high jewellery collections seen so far this year.
