Vivienne Westwood & Jewellery debuts at V&A Dundee
From the iconic pearl choker to four decades of runway archive, V&A Dundee's new Vivienne Westwood exhibition is the most comprehensive celebration of the brand's most underrated superpower its jewellery.
The Vivienne Westwood brand identity is categorised as much by the use of accessories as it is the use of the House signature tartan. The iconic pearl choker with the Vivienne Westwood orb emblem has been on every girl’s Christmas wishlist at some point in her life, making it one of the most iconic pieces in High Jewellery collections in history.
V&A Dundee has just announced Vivienne Westwood & Jewellery, a new exhibition exploring the integral role of jewellery in defining the Vivienne Westwood. The exhibition has been curated by the Vivienne Westwood team, and explores four decades of archival and runway jewellery, making it the first exhibition to present the collections together.
The foundational impact Scottish design history had on the brand will also be intrinsic to the touring exhibition which opens at the Dundee site. The brand’s use of Scottish textiles, sourced from Locharron of Scotland, will form an important part of the exhibition, and the location pays homage to Dame Vivienne Westwood herself, who received an honorary doctorate from the University of Dundee in 2008.
Through a curated multimedia display including sound, catwalk looks, images and video, visitors will be invited to view the Vivienne Westwood jewellery archive from a unique perspective never seen before. The exhibition opens May 2027, and you can find more information here.
