Roger Vivier Unleashes a Swarm of Couture Butterflies in Paris
Gherardo Felloni just unveiled a collection of footwear and jewel bags that prove some things are worth collecting.
Paris Haute Couture Week just got a major dose of archival magic, and our feet are officially thanking us. Roger Vivier has unveiled L’Atelier des Papillons, its Autumn-Winter 2026/27 Pièce Unique collection, with creative director Gherardo Felloni.
Instead of traditional, temporary seasonal drops, this collection is full of literal wearable art. Every single piece is a total individual, crafted to exist only once in the world.
For the first time ever, the house introduced one-of-a-kind Choc pumps and Sneakers. The Choc Pump is built around Monsieur Vivier’s revolutionary, curved heel first introduced way back in 1959. For the Couture Sneaker, Felloni took his sporty 2018 silhouette and elevated it to couture status, complete with its own sculptural curved heel inspired by that same 1959 archive.
The absolute star of the show this season is the butterfly, an enduring symbol of femininity and transformation that Monsieur Vivier returned to throughout his career. The house has famously placed butterflies on iconic creations for Christian Dior in 1955 and 1963, Rayne in 1961, and Rébé in the mid-sixties, before letting them take flight again for a major 1987 retrospective museum show.
Felloni has given those old sketches an upgrade using artisanal techniques. Butterflies flutter across the collection via delicate bead embroidery, hand-painted feathers, breezy organza, macramé, sculpted metal, and intense crystal work. Just like in nature, no two pieces are identical.
Beyond the game-changing shoes, the house brought back its highly coveted Efflorescence Jewel bag and signature embroidered gilets. These pieces served as the ultimate canvas for the brand’s legendary decorative savoir-faire, looking more like museum artifacts than what you’d expect from typical street-style accessories.
The collection made its debut inside the storied salons of Maison Vivier, surrounded by a treasure trove of original moodboards, historical sketches and vintage shoes.
