Music, Fashion, Film. Everything you need to know about Charli xcx’s forthcoming album

Charli xcx has been redefining the music sphere since before Brat even debuted. The edgy saviour of pop, the British singer has become a cultural icon for more than just her music. She’s a fashion mogul often spotted front-row at fashion weeks, and a filmstar in The Moment. Her new album, Music, Fashion, Film, pays homage to her multifaceted artistry.

You might recall that back in April Charli xcx appeared on the cover of Vogue and strongly implied that her next album would be a rock one. Famously, she later denied those claims, but then further confused her fans by debuting ‘Rock Music’; the heavily guitar-tinged single which claims that “the dancefloor is dead”. A strong departure from the hyper-pop extravaganza which was Brat, ‘Rock Music’ may not have been a confirmation of an entire rock album, but it did confirm that the album would herald an entirely new era of Charli xcx.

Since then, the singer has dropped another single, two unreleased b-sides, the name of the album and the cover art. Unlike its bright green predecessor, the cover art and branding for Music, Fashion, Film is entirely black and white, featuring musician John Cale, fashion designer Marc Jacobs and director Martin Scorsese. It’s simple, star-studded and effortlessly contemporary. Though the release of ‘SS26’ confirmed that the album would indeed lean more into pop influences than rock, there’s very little else we know about the musical profile of the upcoming album, so I guess we’ll just have to hold on tight until 24 July.
