Chanel’s Première Galon pushes the boundaries between jewellery and horology.
Chanel’s Première watch first stormed into the world in 1987. Liberated from masculine codes, the watch took traditionally feminine Chanel motifs, such as the octagonal shape of the No5 perfume bottle stopper and leather chain from the quilted bag, to create an alluring and feminine watch. Decades later, an equally stylish little sister has been unleashed: the Première Galon.
Taking the braided trim used in Chanel’s womenswear suits and pocket trims, the Première Galon is informed by couture as well as accessories. Even more delicate and balanced than the initial iteration, the new watch is more a bracelet than it is a timepiece.Free from timestamps, the watch is functional but minimalistic, a subtle invitation to stop and stare instead of rush. Informed by the many materials and colourways Chanel suits are available in, the piece also comes in multiple versions. The most “basic” of the collection (“basic” in inverted commas because this is Chanel we’re talking about, after all) comes in 18K gold with a black-laquered face. This is upgraded with 52 brilliant-cut diamonds around the face and 80 around the bracelet, or 108 and 573 respectively in the most luxe model. All watches are also water-resistant up to 30m, too.
