Louis Vuitton’s New Material Is a Silk Parachute You Can Wear

Louis Vuitton’s newest fabric has a strange backstory. It’s modelled on the silk used in early 20th-century parachutes and hot air balloons, chosen back then for being strong enough to hold a person’s weight while barely weighing anything itself. Silk Tech takes that same logic and weaves silk together with reclaimed nylon into a twill fabric that’s water-repellent, resists creasing and fraying, and,  according to the house, is easy to mistake for leather at a glance.

It first appeared across Pharrell Williams’ Fall-Winter 2026 menswear show in Paris this January, and lands in stores from 9 July, covering ready-to-wear, bags, luggage, footwear and accessories. The debut colourway is Vuitton’s classic brown-and-gold Monogram and a nod to the house’s original coated canvas. 

LV says a Silk Tech City bag can hold up to 50kg. The material shows up across a long list of pieces like windbreakers, a down puffer, duffels, the Keepall 50, the Speedy 30 and 40, the Alma Shoulder, brimmed caps, and sneakers including the LV Trainer, LV Tilted, and LV Drop 300.
