Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Pre-Collection is tailored to the modern man

From Trompe L'Oeil jersey to a cashmere suit posing as denim, Pharrell Williams' Louis Vuitton SS27 Pre-collection is the most playful and genuinely useful pre-season collection of the year.
When designing Cruise, Resort or pre-collections, many brands miss out on the opportunity to craft clothes for the transitional season. Instead, they design pieces catered towards the warmer climate, assuming travel to exotic destinations is on the cards. But for many metropolitan city-slingers (or finance bros, if we’re being candid), city breaks are the name of the game. As Creative Director of Louis Vuitton Menswear, Pharrell Williams has cottoned onto this, and created a Spring-Summer 2027 Pre-collection fit for variable climates.
As with all of Williams’ previous work with Louis Vuitton, the collection is inspired by traditional dandy dressing style codes, infused with the House’s signature motifs. The collection includes workwear, weatherproof outerwear, luxury basics, accessories and shoes, so it truly makes up the whole transitional wardrobe.
The standout pieces from the collection are made from Trompe L’Oeil Jersey. Crafted from leather and layered with a printing technique, they look and feel like classic grey sweats, but are infused with a little bit of Louis Vuitton savoir-faire. The Trompe L’Oeil collection includes a classic zipped hoodie, as well as a selection of bags and jackets mimicking grey sweats, and even a cashmere suit that poses as denim.
Williams’ out-of-the-box thinking doesn’t stop there. Some pieces in the collection play on the classic fisherman motif, with yellow slickers reinterpreted as shiny calfskin lining suitable for people who work on land. Elsewhere, bright gilets and puffer jackets nod to the weatherman reporting from the eye of the storm.
Of course, the Louis Vuitton Monogram remains central to the collection, lasered into a denim workwear set, for example, but the capsule also sees a number of new motifs introduced. One is the narrative cartoon tracing a day in the life of a businessman travelling between New York City and Paris, experiencing the shift in weather. The illustrated figurine features across a range of garments and accessories.
In true transitional style, the capsule includes sunglasses, beanies and umbrellas. The Louis Bear mascot also makes an appearance in a yellow raincoat to match its owner. A refreshing change compared to other pre-season collections we’ve seen so far this year, the Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2027 Men’s Pre-collection is playful and truly transitional, both functional and fashionable.
