Louis Vuitton’s High Summer drop is a beach holiday you can wear

The capsule landed in stores on 10 July, heavy on raffia, deckchair stripes and one tiny boat.
Louis Vuitton has decided what you’re wearing on holiday. The house’s High Summer capsule lands in stores on 10 July, pitched at that stretch of the season when the only commute is from sun lounger to aperitivo, and most of it is engineered to look like it was crocheted by someone’s impossibly chic grandmother. Raffia is the running theme, sometimes being real and sometimes faked in trompe-l’œil, woven into tweed jackets, a long ladder-stitch skirt in cotton ribbon and a striped crochet bucket hat that will be on every third head in Positano by August.

The cult item returning is the ultra-light denim, this time printed with the Flower Minigram, a shrunken version of the Monogram flower, on a peplum top, scalloped shorts and a windbreaker. Baby Stripes does the sporty end with crystal-buttoned crop tops and terry cloth, and the Promenade Parisienne silk squares sketch Paris streets across reversible silk that works as a neck scarf, a hair tie or – if knotted with some ambition – a halterneck.
The Louis Boat Trunk is a miniature ocean liner in canvas, leather and wood, made to mark the first birthday of The Louis, the ship-shaped Vuitton building in Shanghai. Pull the little silver anchor and the deck lifts to reveal hidden compartments for rings and watches, which makes it, technically, a boat-load of jewellery.
