London Welcomes McQueen Home
London made McQueen. Now, for the first time in 25 years, the house is returning to the city where it all began.
Lee Alexander McQueen launched his namesake label in 1992 and his first post-graduate showcase was presented in London over 30 years ago when he was a Central Saint Martins graduate.
The house will present on home soil, rejoining the official London calendar for Spring/Summer 2027 on 20th September. McQueen moved to the Paris schedule in 2001 and has stayed there since, making only occasional trips back the last in 2022, when Sarah Burton staged the SS23 collection beneath a glass dome at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich.
The show marks Seán McGirr’s first London appearance as Creative Director. For McGirr, the return is personal as much as it is strategic London, he says, carries “a uniquely visceral energy” that runs through the house’s entire history. CEO Gianfranco D’Attis echoes that, describing the city as central to the house’s identity and the return as a reaffirmation of McQueen’s commitment to British creativity.
It’s a sentiment shared by the British Fashion Council, whose CEO Laura Weir describes McQueen’s return as a statement of confidence in British creativity “at its most fearless and distinctive.”
