Huishan Zhang debuts a Resort collection inspired by Italian style icon Marella Agnelli.
Founded in London by a Chinese-born designer, Huishan Zhang has built a name for itself mixing Western and Eastern fashion influences. For the new resort collection, the brand looks not to London, but to Italy. Specifically, Italian socialite Marella Agnelli. The collection remembers Agnelli’s formative trip to New York in the early 1960s, a moment where Europe’s sophistication met America’s modernism.
Inspired by the Big Apple’s sharp architecture, the collection explores minimalist structure and tailoring, elevated with the use of crystal and pearl beading and organza applique flowers. In this collection, it’s neither colour nor pattern that take centre stage, but material. Both fine wool and water-repellent cotton gabardine are transformed into sculptural pieces, complimented by the aforementioned accessories.
The collection sticks to the features that characterise Resort collections. It’s elegant and classic, and directly draws inspiration from the era Resort collections found their heyday in, born to be the companion of upper class women on their international getaways. The spirit of Marella Agnelli is felt throughout in the use of architectural silhouettes and the minimalist colour palette. Shop
