This is not just any runway show for Jonathan Anderson, Dior’s Creative Director. While he may dominate the global fashion stage today, his career actually kicked off right in Dublin. It’s a major emotional victory lap, bringing the world’s most glamorous fashion house back to its directors roots for a full-circle moment.
When describing the show, Anderson has said: “Showing at Trinity College Dublin is a dream come true. I began my career in fashion in Dublin, so returning here feels deeply personal.”
It seems the setting will be just as chic as the clothes, with the show being held at the Old Library at Trinity College Dublin. Models will glide past towering, 18th-century bookshelves and priceless literary treasures.
Surprisingly, this Dublin debut actually revives a legendary, 80-year-old fashion connection. Dublin was the birthplace of Carmel Snow, the iconic editor-in-chief of American Harper’s Bazaar and in February 1947, Snow witnessed Christian Dior’s very first runway show in Paris. Blown away by the designs, Snow famously dubbed it the “New Look”, which is a phrase that changed fashion history forever.
By bringing Dior to the Emerald Isle, Anderson is not just celebrating his own roots, but honouring the enduring legacy of Irish influence on high fashion.
