Dior Cigale: The New Icon
Jonathan Anderson takes his all-time favourite dress in fashion history and turns it into a bag and Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Charli XCX are already carrying it.
There are bags that arrive and there are bags that make a statement. The Dior Cigale is very much the latter, and the list of women already carrying it tells you everything you need to know about where it is headed.
First presented at the Spring Summer 2026 show, the Dior Cigale is Jonathan Anderson’s love letter to one of the most celebrated moments in the house’s history. The inspiration is La Cigale, the dress Christian Dior unveiled in his Autumn Winter 1952-1953 Haute Couture Collection. A succinct silhouette in grey moiré silk with deep pleats creating precise structure and volume, it is a piece Anderson has described as his all-time favourite dress in the history of fashion. High praise from a man who has spent his career surrounded by extraordinary clothes.
The bag shares that same sensibility. Its couture-like construction, sculptural asymmetry and signature bow, a nod to the knotted belt of the original dress, make it feel like a wearable piece of fashion history rather than just a very good bag. It can be carried by hand, worn on the shoulder or across the body, which means it works as hard as the women who have already made it their own.
And what a list it is. Rihanna, Charlize Theron, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Rosalía and Anne Hathaway have all been spotted in the black leather version. Charli XCX, Jennifer Lawrence, Greta Lee, JISOO and Priyanka Chopra have opted for the coloured editions, Rose Ballet, Rose Soupir, Hibiscus and Hermitage. Practical, elegant and already one of the most talked about bags of the year. Find out more
