De Beers’ Riverborn Collection Brings Ethical Diamond Mining into Focus
The De Beers Riverborn Capsule celebrates Spring Equinox and artisanal mining.
As the fashion and beauty industry has been majorly influenced by sustainability and ethics over the last decade, characterised by a push for shopping secondhand, made-to-order and cruelty free, the jewellery industry has been hit by a similar desire. As a result, we’ve seen an increasing number of brands releasing collections with lab-grown diamonds. But what if there’s a way to support diamond mining in a more ethical way too?
In 2018 the De Beers group challenged traditional precious stone mining with Gemfair: an initiative that supports the regulation of artisanal mining, ensuring each diamond can be traced from the source to the finished product. The transparent pathway transforms rarity into responsibility, supporting the brand’s commitment to Building Forever. Lasting mined pieces sourced in the most fair way possible.
For spring 2026, De Beers has released a new capsule in collaboration with the Gemfair initiative. The Riverborn Capsule is a homage to the natural cycles found in bodies of water at the time of the spring equinox, the first collection using Gemfair certified diamonds.
The hero pieces of the collection are the Toi & Moi rings with flowing curves representative of Earth’s raw beauty. Crafted in 18K gold, the rings are embellished with raw diamonds with an earthy hue, unlike lab-grown cool-toned clear diamonds. The stones are left in oval or pear shapes, instead of being cut to a manufactured state. With intertwining Florentine bands, they are the true epitome of craftsmanship. Also on offer are Moi & Toi rings with a pavé snow setting of diamonds, with up to 282 diamonds encrusting a single piece.
The collection is completed with a Modern Lines set consisting of a necklace, bracelet and drop earrings in 18K white gold with signature Diamond Lines. Though more polished, this arm of the collection still pays homage to the water cycle and season, the diamonds glistening on the skin like droplets of rain. Exquisite. More information here.
