Bvlgari taps into its avant-garde language with a stainless steel and gold collection
From gas pipes to gold studs Bvlgari's steel and gold collection is back, bolder and more beautiful than ever.
As a Sheffield born-and-bred girl, nothing lights me up like seeing brands making steel beautiful. Though most steel now comes from elsewhere, it’s an important part of our industrial history. Unlike precious metals, steel has more of a functional reputation rather than a fashionable one, so it’s safe to say I was reasonably (extremely) excited when I saw Bvlgari’s new steel collection.
The collection, which uses steel and gold in dialogue with one another, is actually not a new facet of the Bvlgari brand, and is instead an extension of a 1970s collection. The avant-garde fusion of the two opposing metals is a House-signature experiment that Bvlgari is proud to expand upon.
The new iteration of the steel and gold collection includes two B.zero1 rings with two or four steel columns (inspired by the brand’s Roman heritage) captured between two gold bands. The Bvlgari Tubogas necklace and bracelet have also had a modern upgrade. Originally crafted from gas pipes, the new Tubogas feature flexible steel coils perforated with yellow gold studs.
The standout piece from the collection is the Gold & Steel Watch, a take on two iconic Bvlgari silhouettes: the Tubogas and the Serpenti. The Tubogas steel coils take the form of the Serpenti bracelet, accompanied by the same yellow gold studs in the aforementioned necklace and bracelet. The emerald green watch face takes the form of a serpent’s head, studded with diamonds. With only four watches available, it’s the most exclusive piece in the collection.
