A look inside the odyssey behind Louis Vuitton’s new high jewellery collection
Louis Vuitton's Mythica High Jewellery Collection is an eleven-step odyssey through conquest, mystery and triumph and every piece is more breathtaking than the last.
If there’s one thing that gets us on the edge of our seats, it’s when a luxury brand debuts a new high jewelry collection. Not your bog-standard diamond rings and charm bracelets, high jewelry collections represent the pinnacle of artistry, but what really sets them apart are the stories behind them. The Louis Vuitton Mythica High Jewelry Collection is shrouded in some of the most rich, expansive lore we’ve ever seen.
The collection follows the Louis Vuitton woman across an eleven step odyssey, with 110 pieces punctuating each moment from Conquest to Victory. Conquest marks the start of the epic journey, themed around a singular arrow propelling its wearer forward. The arrow is set in a ruby and diamond necklace, crafted over 1,200 hours. The heroine’s bravery is captured across Totem and Fortitude, which include pieces crafted from the formidable cubic zircon and a diamond encrusted pen.
Mystery and magic are, of course, foundational to any odyssey, which is why the Enigma and Spell arcs of the collection include whimsical pieces like a necklace that can be worn in ten different ways and diamonds that are only visible under UV light. Strength and femininity intertwine across the collection, but Mesmerism and Whisper capture the softness and grace of the Louis Vuitton woman through delicate lacework and cloud-like designs. Sirius, the collection’s celestial arc, captures the essence of the star which acts as both a compass and protective deity for the hero on her journey, and includes a constellation necklace. With 249.31 carats in total, the necklace sparkles as bright as the star itself.
The final three steps speak to reward and abundance. Fortune contains the collection’s truest labour of love: a high-collar necklace set with over 4,700 pavé diamonds which required 2,860 hours of work. A phoenix rises from the ashes across the Triumph arc, and the journey culminates in Victory, punctuated by a laurel crown of 37 coloured diamonds.
To celebrate the remarkable achievement, the collection launched with an inaugural event in Morocco. In attendance were guests such as Ana de Armas, Léa Seydoux and Phoebe Dynevor, all of whom were dressed in jewelry from previous Louis Vuitton High Jewelry collections in a celebration of the timeless craftsmanship and artistry that underpins the Maison.
