Masego is telling everyone to “Fix Your Face”

The Jamaican-American jazz fusion maestro, Masego, has chopped off his signature hair, wrote 150 tracks following a period of intense personal upheaval, and finally forced himself to sit down and write his lyrics out instead of just freestyling.

All of this )meh? Something better) can be seen on his third studio album, Fix Your Face, which has dropped with Capitol Records ahead of his massive 40-date world tour hitting London’s O2 on October 18th.

The album title is explained by Masego as a classic phrase Black mothers use when they expect their kids to tighten up and stop crying, but for Masego, it’s a manual on how he’s handling life right now. To make this 16-track project, he went full music-scholar, researching everything from Mary J. Blige to D’Angelo to ground a record that pulls from his Jamaican heritage and his upbringing as a pastor’s kid in Virginia. He even brought along a heavyweight roster of features, including Buju Banton, Keyshia Cole, Leon Thomas, and Musiq Soulchild.

The focus track, “Heaven,” is deep in the gospel choir territory, dripping with nostalgia and early church community energy. It is a massive pivot from his usual groove-led comfort zone.

Because you can’t drop a massive album without a massive tour, Masego is setting off on his biggest headline run to date. The Fix Your Face tour kicks off this August in the US before heading over to Europe and the UK.
