Jil Sander revives an iconic record store that closed its doors in 2007
Fashion and music collide once again as Jil Sander revives iconic Tokyo record store CISCO in a sleek Ginza pop-up, blending sound, style and subculture into an immersive retail experience celebrating its latest runway era.
The intersection of fashion and music is a fan-favourite cultural phenomenon. From curated merch collections (Sabrina Carpenter’s currently topping the list) to runway inspired songs (‘High Fashion’ by Addison Rae has been on repeat for us for a year straight), it’s a match made in heaven. Capitalising on this, fashion house Jil Sander has collaborated with record store CISCO for a new sound kiosk.
Beloved record store CISCO might have closed its doors way back in 2007, but as part of the celebrations for Jil Sander’s Creative Director Simone Belotti’s debut SS26 collection, it’s been revived at the brand’s flagship store in Ginza, Tokyo. The space is filled with bespoke fixtures, record tags and (naturally) shopping bags all in the record shop’s signature colour. Cerulean? Not quite, that’s CISCO blue.
Alongside the BVW soundsystems filling the space, the collab also presents the Jil Sander Sound Zine, filled with interviews with Jil Sander designers and the visionary figures of Japanese ambient music who helped craft the BVW. Inside each zine is also a flexi disk which plays the soundtrack to the Jil Sander AW26 show.
The launch night for the new space hit the Ginzo store in March, and featured DJ sets by founder of Threes Productions, Ruggero Pietromarchi, and Laurel Halo who composed the AW26 set. For anyone not lucky enough to have attended the launch and finds themselves in Tokyo in the coming weeks, the zine will be gifted to anyone who makes a purchase at the Ginzo store, but honestly it’s worth visiting just to experience the space, the goodies are just the cherry on top.
