From Munich to Mars, MCM collaborated with Atelier Biagetti for Milan Design Week
For its 50th anniversary, MCM transforms Milan into a three-level spaceship part disco, part Mars, entirely unforgettable.
Celebrating the Haus’s 50th anniversary and third time returning to Milan Design Week, MCM presented Disco on Mars, an event in collaboration with Atelier Biagetti. The intergalactic soundscape transformed Milan’s Rotundo del Pellegrini into a three-level video-game-style spaceship headed straight for the Red Planet.
In April 2026, the Rotundo opened its doors to an exploration of MCM’s past and future in the ground floor Lab. Upcycled by the Maison’s Visetos monogram, pieces like a robot-inspired pouf, space-inspired helmet and trio of Bauhaus candles adorned the space. To further immerse visitors, Michele Tadini curated a soundscape of mechanical rhythms, representative of the highly technological environment.
Heading to Level 1, guests were invited into a roller rink, populated by humans and robots alike. A fusion between ’70s disco culture and futuristic notions of space, the soundtrack came straight from Berghain’s resident artists as an ode to MCM’s home country, overseen by a robot DJ, naturally.
The final level presented a monumental sculpture. The Avatar, a helmeted figure bathed in soft suspended light, was presented in accompaniment with an original composition by Michele Tandini, which took the operatic voice of Laura Baldassori and distorted it into a post-human aria.
The exhibition represented MCM’s heritage through reinterpreting German design and music, and its possible distant future, forming an exploration into an unknown world. It was an ode to both the creativity that sits at the heart of both MCM and Atelier Biagetti, a fusion of reality and fantasy, luxury and playfulness.
