Fondation Louis Vuitton presents DOKU The Illusion

As part of the Hors-les-murs programme which presents international projects to a global audience, the Fondation Louis Vuitton has announced a new exhibition in Venice. DOKU The Illusion is a solo presentation by Chinese-born artist Yu Lang, whose primary presence in the art scene is dominated by the creation of virtual worlds and video installations. 

Yu Lang’s work is an interesting blend of the tangible and the surreal, grounded in Buddhist philosophy. Rooting 21st century artworks in ancient philosophical principles is a true testament to Yu Lang’s creativity and investigation into the structure of reality vs imagination in the digital world.

The material itself is inspired by manga, video games and anime, and centres around his new film DOKU The Illusion, which is the fourth chapter in his DOKU series. The film blends live-action footage with AI imagery, hip-hop and traditional music and Buddhist symbolism in Venetian architecture. 

The exhibition forms part of the 61st International Art Exhibition, the theme of which is ‘In Minor Keys’, reflected in the disjointed matrimony of Yu Lang’s sources of inspiration. The exhibition is open now until October, making it the perfect pit-stop on your summer vacation.
