From a suspended yellow taxi on 57th Street to a crimson classic car in Beverly Hills Dior's anniversary window displays are the most talked-about art installations in America right now.

Is there anything more quintessentially New York than a big yellow taxi? Joni Mitchell certainly didn’t think so and, apparently, neither does Dior. To celebrate one year since the opening of the Parisian fashion House’s flagship stores in New York and Beverly Hills, the Maison has commissioned British artist Alex Chinneck to create new window displays.

A suspended big yellow taxi now sits in the window of House of Dior New York on 57th Street, and in Beverly Hills there’s a surrealist classic car in crimson red. These aren’t just any window displays, though, Dior actually calls them ‘visual poems’.

The visual poems incorporate classic LA and NY motifs. The ‘city of angels’ is brought to life through ornamental street lamps and draped fabrics reminiscent of Renaissance depictions of angels, while ‘the city that never sleeps’ is depicted through traffic lights and clocks.

The displays are a playful celebration of the anniversary of these flagship stores, and Dior’s enduring ties with Alex Chinneck, who also designed the interior of the House’s Beauty Suite for Cannes Film Festival.
