LA and NY’s fashion scenes may have a longstanding rivalry, but with the new Coach x Brain Dead collaboration, it looks as though harmony might finally be restored.

The collaboration spans across ready-to-wear leathergoods, footwear and accessories in signature Coach styles infused with Brain Dead’s punky, avant-garde aesthetic. It’s inspired by Tokyo street style and the increasingly popular souvenir culture, kind of like Labubus for in-the-know fashionistas.

Speaking on the collection, Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers said he and Brain Dead co-founder Kyle Ng created an “entire imagined world” around the collection, situated in a fictional amusement park, populated by mascots Kachi, Xerx and Zilly.

It’s in this imagined landscape that the collection premiered in New York’s Meatpacking District earlier this month. The preview was less runway and more flashmob, with guests like Troye Sivan and Lourdes Leon in attendance.

Alongside gingham dresses, babydoll tops and rugby polos, the iconic Coach Tabby bag is also reimagined with crochet charms and embossed mascot patches. The collection debuts just as Coach leans into its more playful aesthetic, with the recent opening of the Coach playground pop-up at the Selfridges Corner Shop. The Brain Dead collaboration marks a more art-forward venture into this new era.
