Music, Fashion, Film, and now… Film, again

Charli xcx has directed her own film to go with her new album, Music, Fashion, Film. It’s thirty minutes of pop’s favourite subject right now, fame, and what it does to the person living it. The reviews have been almost embarrassingly good: five stars from The Guardian, five from DIY, a 9/10 from The Line of Best Fit, Pitchfork’s Best New Music stamp.

The cover art shows the scale of ambition here, with John Cale, Marc Jacobs and Martin Scorsese, shot together by Aidan Zamiri. It feels like a meeting of three men who have never had any obvious reason to be in the same room, now permanently stuck together on a Charli xcx sleeve.

For anyone who wants to own a physical piece of it, the deluxe box set goes all in with a vinyl, three 7” singles with unreleased B-sides, a 48-page photo book and art prints. And live, she’s taking it to arenas across North America this autumn, including two nights each at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and LA’s Kia Forum.
