BTS’s Comeback Album Is Breaking Records Worldwide

BTS spent three years in military service and came back with 3.8 billion streams, a record-breaking single and the most anticipated world tour of 2026. ARIRANG was worth the wait.
BTS’s fifth studio album, ARIRANG, has become one of the standout releases of the year, racking up huge streaming numbers and engagement levels that suggest the group’s fanbase is both deepening and expanding simultaneously, even as the band returns from a period that tested their staying power.
Formed in 2013 under Bang Si-hyuk’s label, BTS built their reputation on self-produced music and an unusually direct relationship with fans, who organised globally under the name ARMY. The group’s trajectory took a significant detour when all seven members fulfilled South Korea’s mandatory military service, which requires able-bodied men to serve roughly 18 to 21 months before turning 28. The members enlisted in stages, with the process stretching from 2022 into 2025.
According to data from music analytics firm Luminate, the album generated 3.8 billion streams across major platforms in its first eight weeks, while interest in the band’s back catalog spiked enough to push their total streaming output past 5.3 billion in the same window. The lead single, “SWIM,” became the first song to top 500 million Spotify streams in 2026, and each 14 songs on the album cleared 100 million streams individually.
The streaming spread was truly global, with Latin America leading at 27% of total share, ahead of Northeast Asia, North America, Southeast Asia, and Europe. Physical sales were equally dominant, with BTS reportedly outselling the next two best-selling U.S. artists combined nearly fourfold.
Luminate’s fandom research also found “superfan” and core-engagement metrics at historic highs, alongside a notable rise in non-K-pop listeners, particularly hip-hop fans, drawn into the BTS orbit. The band, whose admirers over the years have included figures across music, film, and politics, continues this momentum on their world tour.
